Library To Host College Information Night
Hillsborough Public Library is hosting “The College Process: Everything You Need to Know” on Tuesday, June 4. Students grades 9 through 12 and their parents or caregivers are invited to attend the event to learn more about the college application process.
The event will be from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Hillsborough public library in program room AB.
The presentation will cover early steps of college preparation, PSAT, SAT, and ACT preparation, how to choose colleges, strategies to increase chance of acceptance, tips for writing college essays, and information about scholarships and financial aid. There will also be an open ended Q&A session.
The event will be led by Susan Alaimo, the founder and director of S.A.T. Smart, a local test preparation company. Alaimo is also the author of “College Planning Strategies for New Jersey Students.” She has been offering this free program at the library for the past 15 years.
As someone who has been through the college application process and attended these types of events, I can attest that they are very helpful for students and parents alike. They are informative to anyone overwhelmed by the idea of college applications, or who have questions about the process.
Considering the a overwhelming amount of mail and information colleges send to prospective students, many students struggle to sift through everything to find the perfect fit. This program provides strategies for narrowing down the options, as well as several approaches to tackling to application process itself.
The program lays out a college application step by step, helps to create a game plan, and explains how to stand out in a sea of applicants.
