Hillsborough Superintendent Dr. Jorden Schiff Steps Down
It was announced at last night’s Board of Education meeting that Dr. Schiff will be retiring from his position as the Superintendent of Hillsborough Township Schools effective October 1st, 2019. Dr. Lisa M. Antunes has been appointed Acting Superintendent in the interim.
The news adds an additional layer of complication for our township’s school system, which is already dealing with loss of state-aid, ongoing teacher contract negotiations and budget cuts that have affected staff, school programs, activity fees and bussing.
Dr. Schiff’s retirement announcement is below.
Good morning,
Serving as your superintendent for the past eight years has been one of the most professionally rewarding experiences of my career. We have provided more access to technology for our students, included Mandarin Chinese instruction beginning in first grade, and focused on equity by making Instructional Rounds a common practice throughout the district. Hillsborough High School graduates 98% of our students with 92% continuing their studies at colleges and universities throughout our county. The number of students taking Advanced Placement courses continues to increase. The latest national rankings find Hillsborough Township Public Schools #15 in New Jersey, a state just ranked by Quality Counts as #1 in the nation. Our accomplishments have been a team effort, and I am very proud of the work of our faculty, staff, administration, Board of Education, parents, and most of all, our students.
After close to thirty years in public education, the time has come to pass the torch to new leadership. Last night, Judith Haas, President of the Hillsborough Township Board of Education, announced that I will retire from the district effective October 1st. I am very pleased to announce that Dr. Lisa M. Antunes has been appointed Acting Superintendent. She has, and continues to serve with honor and distinction for the past fourteen years as our Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction. Her leadership will provide continuity to the district while the Board of Education searches for a permanent superintendent.
Hillsborough Township Public Schools are filled with many talented and committed professionals who dedicate themselves to the children of our community. I look forward to seeing how the district continues to excel as it transitions to new leadership.
Sincerely,
Jorden Schiff, Ed.D.
