Dear Hillsborough Community,
Last evening, the Hillsborough Township Board of Education took a preliminary step by voting 6-3 to apply to the state for the ability to raise the local tax levy by up to $20 million and potentially receive $1 million in state aid.
It is crucial to understand that taxes have NOT been raised at this time. This vote simply allows the Board to move forward with the application process to the state.
Before this application is submitted, your voice matters! The Board wants to hear directly from you at a Community Engagement Night this Thursday, April 10th at 7:00 PM at Auten Road Intermediate School.
This is your opportunity to learn more about this potential application, ask questions, and share your thoughts with the Board of Education.
Please note that even if submitted, the application requires approval from the state. Following state approval, the Board of Education will then vote on whether to include any such funding in the 2025-2026 school budget on April 28th.
You have TWO key opportunities to be heard:
This Thursday, April 10th at 7:00 PM: Community Engagement Night at Auten Road Intermediate School.
Monday, April 28th at 7:30 PM: Board of Education meeting where the budget will be discussed and voted on at Auten Road Intermediate School.
We encourage all community members to attend Thursday's engagement night to ensure your perspectives are considered before the application process moves forward. We value your input and look forward to a productive discussion.
Sincerely,
The Hillsborough Township Board of Education
