From the Desk of Dr. Lisa Antunes:
I hope this message finds everyone healthy, well and staying cool in this heat!
As previously shared, the New Jersey Department of Education (NJDOE) released its return to school guidance titled, The Road Back: Restart and Recovery Plan for Education. The District Restart Committee (DRC) and school-based Pandemic Response Teams (PRT) have been diligently working to assist in formulating a plan that best meets the needs of our community. A recommendation for a reopening plan will be provided to the Board of Education very soon.
As shared previously, the timeline presented by the NJDOE is very aggressive and our work continues. We expect that as the Governor and NJDOE analyze the most current data, our plan will be adjusted accordingly. In fact, pursuant to the Governor’s announcement on Monday that parents will be provided with an all virtual option, we are seeking information from our community so please take a moment to utilize this link to respond to a short survey (9 questions), which will be available until Saturday, July 25 at 5:00 p.m.
As always, please know that every decision made is done so with the health and safety of our students and staff in mind, so while the plan may not be ideal for every individual and/or family, it will seek to ensure a continuity of instruction and equity, while taking into account the socio-emotional needs of students and staff.
Although we continue to find ourselves with more questions than answers and we expect there may be adjustments, please note the following points:
NJ schools will reopen for in-person instruction (in some format) in September
All students and staff members will be REQUIRED to wear face coverings unless medical conditions prohibit them from doing so
Temperatures will not be taken at the bus stop or upon arrival to school
There will be a limited supply of PPE for emergency purposes; generally, PPE will not be provided for students and staff (beyond the staff who currently receive PPE)
While I have stated this repeatedly, I believe it bears repeating ~ thank you for your support and patience as we continue on this journey to create, adjust, revise, and finalize plans for 7300 students and 1000 staff members that are Hillsborough Township Public Schools. We understand that each family has differing comfort levels and our goal is to provide options that will meet the needs of our students, families, and staff members. We respect the individual perspectives of all of our families and know that the decision to send your child(ren) back to school is personal and complex.
Please utilize this link to respond to a short survey (9 questions), which will be available until Saturday, July 25. We understand that your choices may change as September draws near, however, your current answers will help us to understand and continue to plan for the possible number of students who may join us for in-person instruction.
Respectfully,
Lisa M. Antunes, Ed.D.
Superintendent of Schools
