Hillsborough To Host 14th Annual Memorial Day Parade
Hillsborough Township will host its annual Memorial Day Parade this Saturday, May 25, starting at 10:30 a.m. at the intersection of Auten and Triangle Roads. The parade will run towards Beekman Lane and end at the Peter J. Biondi Municipal Building.
Before the parade, the township will hold a ‘Salute to Veterans’ Breakfast for veterans and their spouses at 7:30 a.m.
The day’s events will conclude with a ceremony in the Garden of Honor at the municipal building, directly following the parade.
“All Township veterans, spouses and widows are invited to provide their leadership and join us on May 25th in commemorating this important day,” said Mayor Frank DelCore in a statement to the Township.
Non-profit and youth-based community organizations were invited to march in the parade. Groups such as the Jr. Raiders and the Girl and Boy Scouts will join veterans and their families as they march in the parade.
Mayor Delcore announced earlier in May that retired Navy Captain and Hillsborough resident, Timothy J. Jordan will be serving as the Grand Marshall for the day’s Commemoration Ceremonies.
Captain Jordan served over 30 years in a variety of duty assignments and has been a resident of Hillsborough for 28 years.
“This parade honors the veterans of Hillsborough, New Jersey, and America as well as their commitment to protecting our freedom,” said Hillsborough’s Parks and Recreation Department Facebook page.
As someone who has attended the parade since childhood, I can vouch that it is a great event that brings together friends and family. It is an opportunity to see the faces that make up Hillsborough and most importantly, it honors our veterans.
