Hillsborough Schools COVID-19 Update 2.1: Half Day March 12, 2020

Good evening HTPS community,
Hillsborough Township School District recognizes the seriousness of COVID-19 and its impact on our community. We continue to closely monitor information and guidance on the transmission of COVID-19 and actions being taken by organizations, colleges, and hospitals locally, nationally and internationally. At this time there is no recommendation to close schools. As stated in previous correspondence, we have been notified by the New Jersey Department of Education (NJDOE) that if there are mandated, public health related school closures, districts that provide access to approved alternate instructional methods during the closure will be in compliance with the 180-day requirement.
To that end, students will follow a half day schedule on Thursday, March 12, 2020 in order to provide teachers the opportunity to develop a reasonable, flexible learning framework that afternoon. Additional planning will take place during the previously scheduled inservice day on Friday, March 20.

Absences continue to be monitored and appropriate school-based precautions are in place. At this time, we are not cancelling local field trips or school activities. However, please continue to reinforce the use of preventative measures including frequent handwashing, avoid close contact with people who are exhibiting symptoms, and avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.
Additionally, the National Association of School Psychologists has a parent resource for speaking with your child(ren) about Coronavirus that may be helpful. Should your child(ren) become upset or display increased anxiety or concern about these current events, please encourage him/her to seek the assistance of a trusted adult, including the school counselor.
More information will be provided as the situation warrants. Thank you for your flexibility with the adjustment to the school calendar as we plan for this unpredictable situation.
