Hillsborough Combines Annual Fireworks with Hillsborough Music Fest
Hillsborough’s annual Independence Day Celebration is on its way to more than just signs around town: the event will be held on Saturday June 29 and festivities will start at 5 p.m. at Auten Road Intermediate School. Similar to years past, shuttle buses from the High School to Auten Road will be provided, starting at 4:30 p.m.
This year’s celebration has been combined with the Hillsborough Music Fest. The Music Fest will feature a diverse selection of local bands and solo artists.
The event was created in 2009 by Donnetta Bishop-Johnson, founder and owner of the Allegra School of Music and Arts. Proceeds from the event are donated to My Son, Your Daughter: The Jonah Johnson Youth Scholarship Fund which is dedicated to suicide prevention and anti-violence education in our local school systems. They are aiming to raise $50,000 this year. All proceeds from the festival go towards this goal.
“The Hillsborough Music Festival is “Performing to Save Lives” to promote mental health resiliency, remove stigmas about mental illness, and prevent youth suicide by funding youth outreach programs across the community,” said the Hillsborough Music Fest website.
The larger event will feature a food tent, free inflatable amusements (from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.), free dunk tank, pay-to-play boardwalk games, a DJ along with other musical entertainment, and of course, fireworks! In the event of rain, the rain date is Sunday June 30.
Be sure to come out and join the town for good food, great music, and a beautiful fireworks display!
