Hidden Waterfalls in New Jersey

 

BUTTERMILK FALLS
Layton, NJ

Right on the northwest Pennsylvania-New Jersey border, the tallest waterfall in New Jersey, Buttermilk Falls falls in Walpack Township. This beautiful waterfall is a little over a mile away from your car and the walk there is very scenic. As you make your way to the main waterfall, you will see many small waterfalls and other pretty sites. As a plus, there are a huge variety of birds that fly over often for those avid bird-lovers.


LAKE SOLITUDE
High Bridge, NJ

If the Buttermilk Falls in Layton are too far, then at a quick half hour drive is Lake Solitude. This man-made waterfall lies a little outside of central New Jersey and is a very short walk to the falls. The falls is a very photogenic place and a great place to take your family on a nice weekend. It is also a great place to sit down and have a picnic and is a great place to take a quick swim.


HEMLOCK FALLS
South Orange, NJ

This waterfall that is a twenty minute drive from Newark is an oasis in the middle of a busy town and a suburban area. The falls is a short walk from where you would park and is very tranquil, relaxing and quiet. It is an amazing place to go hiking with your entire family as it is kid and pet friendly. This location is also an amazing spot to take pictures without travelling to the Delaware Water Gap and is less than an hour away!


BOONTON FALLS
Boonton, NJ

In northern New Jersey lies one of the tallest waterfalls in our area, Boonton Falls. Boonton Falls is accessible from inside Grace Lord Park which is also in Boonton. Once used to help power the New Jersey Iron Company, this fall is now one of the best places to take pictures. After you hike your way to the falls, it is a great place to go fishing, swimming and kayaking.
