"The Addams Family" - Presented by Hillsborough High School Theatre
Once a year, the Hillsborough High School Theatre program puts on a spring musical for two weekends in March, in which all students are welcomed to audition for. This year, “The Addams Family” was the musical of choice. Students, families, teachers, and other members of the community gathered to see the production.
“The Addams Family” is a musical based off of the popular television series and tells the story of an out of ordinary family. Combining both the Addams Family’s dark humor with an updated story helps welcome old fans, as well as introduce the characters to a newer audience.
Preparation began back in January, with the cast meeting several times a week to run music, acting, and choreography. Students even took the initiative to schedule extra rehearsals after school to solidify the production. Students were able to gain responsibility by receiving leadership positions, including dance captain and music captain.
Before opening night, the cast spent five nights rehearsing the show for several hours back to back, to smooth out all the edges. This included adding costumes, makeup, lights, and the orchestra. After three months of late-night rehearsals, sore throats, and burned knees, the show was eventually given a live audience.
