Hillsborough Hockey Plays In State Finals
While the fall may be dedicated to football rallies and soccer games, Hillsborough Raider pride shined through at last week Monday’s hockey game, with Boro Hockey competing in the state championships. Hundreds of HHS students traveled to the Prudential Center in Newark, NJ to watch the team in action. We asked Michael Panchery, a junior at Hillsborough High School, about his experiences this season leading up to the big night.
The team has been preparing since November in order to be ready for competition. “...We had on-ice and off-ice workout sessions everyday for two weeks. It was strenuous, but it forced us back into shape and prepared us for the upcoming season,” Panchery told us.
Although the Raiders didn’t take home the win that night, they were still able to bring people together on what would have been another normal Monday evening. Panchery explained that “It was awesome that not only students from our school but also members of the community and township had traveled to Newark to support us.” Even before the game had started, Boro Hockey left with strong support from their peers as students wished them good luck for their game at Prudential.
While this year’s hockey season may be over, training is not. “Next year we are planning to work even harder than we did this year to get back to the Prudential Center and make history for our school and town.” The team ended with an incredible overall record of 21-7-1.
