HHS Theatre Puts on Shakespeare’s Classic “Romeo and Juliet”
HHS Theatre presented their own version of William Shakespeare’s classic tragedy, “Romeo and Juliet” on June 7 and 8. The play details two young star-crossed lovers on opposite sides of feuding, aristocratic families in Verona, Italy. The lovers defy the status quo in the name of love, as well as death.
HHS Theatre performed a new interpretation of the five-act production. With an abridged script, smaller cast size, and soundtrack accompaniment that helped with the momentum and the plot of the show, spectators were in a for an action-packed night. The show featured on-stage dueling with real blades, as well as an abstract set of stairs and boxes. This allowed both the actors to have more fluidity on stage, and audiences to have their own image of Verona and its high orchard walls.
After numerous rehearsals and quick planning, the cast and crew were able to put together a stellar production that highlighted the play’s greatest moments. The play ran at about eighty minutes with no intermission, and audiences left with new perspectives on love, family, and devotion. Congrats to both the cast and crew of “Romeo and Juliet” on an amazing production!
